Questions & Answers
We have listed some of the commonly asked questions we have received from customers on our website, Amazon or Ebay along with answers we, or in some cases, our customers have given sharing their experience.
Yes - with the 1836, 2442, 3560 & 4166 pedestals the joist will overlap by about 1" on one side and we recommend placing the supports alternately from the left and right sides of the joists.
These pedestals are height adjustable and can be used on slightly uneven ground as the large 200mm base area conforms well to the substrate. For sloping sites we offer levelling shims in 1, 3 or 5 degree angles which fit on top of the supports. Alternatively, packing shims under the base plates to ensure a firm seating is also okay.Note: Since this answer we have introduced the 4166 and 2442 ranges of self-levelling pedestals.
Depending on the angle we offer slope adjuster shims in 1, 3 and 5 degree options. For greater height differences than can be achieved with pedestals alone, we offer 25mm, 50mm and 100mm extensions.Note: Since this answer was posted we we introduced the 4166 and 2442 self-leveling pedestal ranges, designed for use on sloping ground.
Yes, if the stone is well compacted but not suitable on loose stones.Customer: Joe Birt, 29 May 2019StrataRise: We agree!
The surface needs to be fairly level and firm and not liable to be changed/softened by rain, etc. Provided the surface is stable, the 8" (200mm) base spreads load satisfactorily.StrataRise. 22 May 2020
There are scribe marks on the base of each pedestal for use as guides when cutting for use at corners or sides. Further information is shown in our products section of the website. You can also place the pedestals slightly in from the edges or corners if desired.StrataRise. 11 May 2020
It depends to some extent on how far apart you will be placing the joists. Assuming you use 24" (600mm) approx. centers, for a professional, commercial-quality installation, 42 to 45 pedestals would be sufficient.StrataRise. 27 February 2020
No - they are weather resistant and stable in low temperatures for intended uses. Sharp impacts with temperatures below -15°C could cause breakage. StrataRise. 29 October 2020
It depends on how far apart you are spacing the joists, but assuming 20" (500mm) centers that would total 28 supports - with 6" joists there will not be any noticeable deflection.StrataRise. 13 June 2020
Yes, I used them under my summer house 16' x 11' (5.1m x 3.2m). Just use as many as you can to spread the weight.Customer: Mr U. 28 June 2020Note: with joists at 24" centers we would recommend using between 6 and 8 pedestals per square yard - spaced evenly along the joists. For the 24' x 14' building (37 sq yds) that would be around 230 pedestals.
Yes - We suggest you plan for 20" (500mm) centers for the support beams with pedestals at 24" (600mm) centers along each beam.StrataRise. May 2020The specifications say each pedestal will support up to 800kg, so depends how heavy your cabin is.markh2311. 21 May 2020Yes that’s exactly what I used them for - a summer house of similar sizeMr U. 20 May 2020I would think yes, they are quite strong and spaced at minimum interval should be ok, check manufacturer weight loading info.COLIN GARNER 21 May 2020
You can use multiple 25mm, 50mm and 100mm extenders if required with the 3560ML pedestals (also 4166 pedestals). Likewise you can use multiples of the 20mm extensions with the Flexi-level cradles. The extenders are designed to be used in combinations and multiples to achieve the necessary height adjustment ranges required.StrataRise. 26 May 2020
